INDEPENDENT CREATIVE ENGINEERING / MATT GROGAN

Built to work.
Made to feel alive.

Useful systems, playable worlds, and interfaces with a pulse.

SELECTED WORK

Three builds.
A closer look.

Three projects, from the inside out.
What they do. What was difficult. What holds up.

LIVE BROWSER GAME

Sporeling
Dash.

Your movement becomes the level.

A platformer for players who like finding their own route. Air dashes grow temporary bloom platforms, turning movement, timing, and limited resources into one connected system.

My work: product direction, gameplay systems & iteration.

The hard part

Make dash momentum, collisions, temporary platforms, and retry rules agree, including on touch controls.

The decision

Keep gameplay strictly 2D beneath a painted world. A procedural backdrop keeps play available if the art fails to load.

Evidence

The local suite passed 95 checks, including real-engine route probes and collision, checkpoint, and input regressions. This is test evidence, not a claim of universal device coverage.

OPEN SOURCE / PUBLIC BETA

Cloud
Cabinet.

Your files. Your infrastructure.

A private file manager for people and teams who want to run their own storage. Browse, share within an access-controlled workspace, and restore earlier file versions.

The hard part

Make access, quota checks, immutable versions, and restore behavior dependable at the file boundary.

The decision

Self-hosting gives the owner control of storage and access. The tradeoff is responsibility for setup, backups, and updates. This beta has no desktop sync or public share links.

Evidence

32 public-repository tests passed locally on Sep 9, 2026, covering authentication, versions, sharing, quotas, and bounded imports. A customer deployment was not tested.

NATIVE MAC PROTOTYPE / RECORDED DEMO

A control desk for one Mac.
A live picture of what’s happening inside.

CPU, memory, power, network traffic, and app activity brought into one local surface. A Node collector filters the readings before a native macOS shell displays the histories and instruments.

My work: interface, telemetry integration & native packaging.
The film is a recording. No live computer feed is exposed here.

The hard part

Read changing hardware data without leaking arbitrary app names, paths, or private event details into the interface.

The decision

Filter data before it reaches the browser. Unknown apps become aliases. This sacrifices some detail in exchange for a smaller privacy footprint; the collector stays local.

Evidence

18 local checks passed on Sep 9, 2026 across telemetry, privacy, hardware normalization, kinetic geometry, and display layout. The ring sculpture is decorative; it is not an additional sensor.
